Microbiology:

At PML, our Microbiology department plays a critical role in detecting and diagnosing infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Using advanced culture techniques, staining methods, and automated systems, we identify pathogens accurately and determine their sensitivity to antibiotics. Our NABL entry-level accredited lab ensures strict aseptic procedures and precise reporting, aiding in the effective treatment of infectious diseases. Microbiological testing is essential for timely intervention, infection control, and improving patient outcomes.

This test is used to detect urinary tract infections (UTIs) by identifying the specific bacteria causing the infection and determining which antibiotics are most effective for treatment. It helps prevent complications like kidney infections.

Blood culture tests help detect the presence of bacteria or fungi in the blood — critical for diagnosing bloodstream infections like septicemia. Early detection is essential for guiding life-saving treatment.

Used to diagnose lower respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia or tuberculosis. It identifies organisms in mucus and determines their antibiotic susceptibility.

These tests detect infections in the gastrointestinal tract caused by bacteria, parasites, or viruses. They help identify causes of symptoms like diarrhea, abdominal pain, and nausea.

Used to diagnose bacterial infections in the throat, such as streptococcal (strep) throat. It helps determine the appropriate antibiotic therapy and prevent complications like rheumatic fever.

This specialized test is used for diagnosing tuberculosis (TB). The AFB stain detects Mycobacterium tuberculosis in sputum or other samples, while culture confirms and identifies drug resistance.

Fungal cultures detect infections caused by yeast and molds in the skin, nails, respiratory tract, or systemic infections. Accurate identification is critical for appropriate antifungal treatment.
